NBA Playoffs Throwback: Utah Jazz vs. San Antonio Spurs, 1998 Western Conference semifinals, Game 4

Karl Malone “delivers” 34 points on 17-28 shooting at the Alamodome against Tim Duncan and David Robinson. His jumpers like layups. The Jazz win the series 4-1 advancing to sweep the Lakers in the Western Conference finals before losing to Chicago in the NBA Finals.

The 2012 match-up starts with Game 1 on Sunday at 1pm EST on ESPN!

Jeremy Evans of the Utah Jazz won the 2012 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest tonight.
The less said about tonight’s “dunk” contest the better. That’s not taking anything away from Evans’ double fisted dunk over a seated Gordon “Olive Garden” Hayward, it’s just that the contest wasn’t fun or that interesting.
As many have said on Twitter tonight in the aftermath of the colossal snooze fest, new rules for the 2013 Slam Dunk contest. Bring back the judges, eliminate props, create stricter attempt limits, cash prizes, etc. Maybe David Stern should suspense LeBron James for five games if he bails out on the dunk contest next year.

NBA Haikus - 2011-2012 Season Preview - The Northwest Division

It’s going to be a short season after an even shorter off-season. We had limited time to track player movement, team development and bring you in depth team analysis, like we did last year. So the bros and bro-ettes at NBAO decided we’ll follow in the footsteps of the NBA and provide you with abbreviated team previews in the best way possible, haikus.

Our fourth installment of NBA Haikus is dedicated to the Western Conference’s Northwest Division. We will all miss Brandon Roy but this is probably the funnest division in basketball. Minny’s Rubio and Love connection, Portland’s plug-and-play roster, Denver’s gang of unknowns and OKC’s young bloods. My prediction? Thunder up!

Western Conference - Northwest Division:

Denver Nuggets:
Aaron Afflalo
Denver will make the playoffs
Still miss JR Smith
__________

Minnesota Timberwolves:
Skinny Kevin Love
Rambis out, Adelman in
Go Rubio, go!
__________

Oklahoma City Thunder:
Dunks, blocks, wins and beards
Durant’s third scoring title
Trip to the Finals
__________

Portland Trail Blazers:
Brandon Roy is gone
Oden forever injured
Sad trombone, Rip City
__________

Utah Jazz:
It’s hard to look good
in fancy new uniforms
with latent talent
__________

NBA Logo Playoffs - Sweet 16

Hey, good morning/afternoon sports fans. We’re wrapping up the Sweet 16 round today (which went by really fast).

In the premiere matchup of the second round, two logos from the same year are squaring off, as the Knicks take on the Rockets. This will be another match of legacy against innovation. The other matchup, also quite good, features an upstart in the Trailblazers against one of the best present-day logos from the Jazz.

Get voting, it really counts today. (and don’t forget to eat your Wheaties)

NBA Logo Playoffs - Round 1

Today we will wrap up the first round of the 2011 NBA Logo Playoffs!

I really like the matchups today. We’ve got very old school Clippers (from San Diego) taking on a cool color scheme from the Jazz. And we’ve got our final same-team matchup, with two amazing Seattle logos (God rest their souls).

Get voting! (And if you click the Clippers logo, you can see it without all the black, I don’t know why it did that).

In Case You Stopped Watching: Devin (the Dude) Harris hits a clutch three followed by Kenyon Martin flubbing an in-bounds pass and Andrei Kirilenko just missing an open layup in the final seconds of the game. New look Nuggets win by a bucket. (via @jose3030)

End of an era. Sloan passes the baton.

End of an era. Sloan passes the baton.

Everybody likes to win a World Championship but I think our team laid everything they had out there when we were in that position. Can’t ask for any more, and you should be able to hold your head up and go home and go to bed. I think those guys did that.
