Basketball Songs Hall of Fame

Artist: Cheech & Chong (featuring Tyrone Shoelaces)
Song: “Basketball Jones”
Album: Los Cochinos
Year: 1974

Not only is this song the unofficial “I can’t wait for this season to start already” anthem, but what is often understated is its significance in music history. Besides Cheech Marin/Tyrone Shoelaces’ falsetto (“I got more moves than Ex-Lax”), the song also features some pretty huge names in music (thanks Wikipedia):

  • Cheech Marin - Tyrone Shoelaces (voice)
  • Darlene Love - Cheerleader (voice)
  • Michelle Phillips - Cheerleader (voice)
  • Ronnie Spector - Cheerleader (voice)
  • George Harrison - lead guitar
  • Klaus Voormann - bass
  • Jim Karstein (often misspelled as Carstein) - drums
  • Jim Keltner - percussion
  • Carole King - electric piano
  • Nicky Hopkins - piano
  • Tom Scott - saxophone
  • Billy Preston - organ

That’s right, even the Beatles get the basketball jones.

Themed inspired by Hunson and Josh.
