BUZZER BEATEN

BUZZER BEATEN

As if a series that had four consecutive games go to overtime wasn’t close enough already, tonight’s came down to a tenth of a second, which is about how far after the buzzer Serge Ibaka’s putback came. Game 6 is Thursday, and you might as well add an hour to your DVR recording time now, because it’s probably not going to end in regulation.

LeBron James gets hit in the face by Serge Ibaka, still finishes the dunk, and then immediately collapses to the floor. At 0:29 in, you can hear a great example of what Reggie Miller brings to a basketball telecast:

LeBron has been down for twenty seconds, laying on the ground, and there’s a growing puddle of blood under his head. The astute Miller muses, “You’re wondering, did he take a shot from Serge Ibaka?” The alternative being that LeBron’s face was so excited about the dunk, it spontaneously started gushing blood, I guess. Later Miller added, “You’re wondering, is the team that scores the most points going to win this game?” and “Hey, remember when Diane von Furstenberg’s son hired a plane to tell me to stop pursuing married women?”

In over the weekend news, the “ill blocka” agreed to a four-year $48 million dollar deal to stay with the Thunder (up).

Great shot.

Great shot.

LeBron is not a good defender. He can play defense for two to three minutes but not 48 minutes.

Serge Ibaka, who probably hasn’t mastered the English language yet.

Just a statistical note…

Combining their three games, they put up 105 points, 27 rebounds, 13 assists, 5 steals and 12 blocks, going 41-64 from the field, 8-12 from deep and 15-19 from the charity stripe.

Wait. You’re telling me Kevin Durant put up FIFTY-ONE (51) POINTS tonight? On 67% shooting?
Well that’s unbelievable. The kid’s got a lot of-

Serge Ibaka had five stuffs, but Shawn Marion delivered the Block Of The Night against Oklahoma City, sending back Kevin Durant’s attempt at a game-winning three-pointer. Marion also arguably had the Steal Of The Night, and definitely had the Unfortunate Chinese Character Tattoo Of The Night.
