Lakers to retire Shaq’s #34 next season.
Good to see the Buss family, who are always classy, and Shaq both taking the high road. No matter how you slice it, this it great for the NBA.

Lakers to retire Shaq’s 34 next season.
O’Neal will be the eighth player in Lakers franchise history to have his jersey retired, joining Wilt Chamberlain (No. 13), Elgin Baylor (No. 22), Gail Goodrich (No. 25), Magic Johnson (No. 32), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (No. 33), James Worthy (No. 42) and Jerry West (No. 44).
In the eight seasons he spent in Los Angeles from 1996-2004, the Lakers made the Finals four times, winning three championships, and O’Neal led the league in scoring while being named regular season MVP in 1999-00.

Hey reader: do you wish to look as cool as Ryan Gosling with a satin jacket but also want to rep the Lakers at the same time? Didn’t think it was possible? Well the good folks at KYC Vintage have got you covered.
Also visit their fine store for more awesome vintage sporting goods.

#5 all-time, passing Shaq and inching towards the only one that matters on the list (at least to Kobe), Michael Jordan.

Another day, another Lakers rumor of sorts.
Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Los Angeles Lakers have expressed an interest in trading for Cleveland Cavaliers back up point guard Ramon Sessions.
As we all know by now, the Lakers’ point guard options look fairly glum right now. Derek Fisher, while he may hit the occasional big shot, isn’t going to turn back the clock, Steve Blake is still on the injured list and rookies Darius Morris & Andrew Goudelock have been sporadically effective when given time off the bench. It only makes sense to find a temporary solution to keep up with the glut of speedy point guards in the Western Conference.
A deal for Sessions makes sense for the Lakers and could be affective use of the Lamar Odom trade exception, but you never quite know with this current Lakers regime. With Orlando’s current landslide and the Nets playing like, well, the Nets, maybe Mitch Kupchak could pull off a mega deal landing Dwight Howard and Deron Williams.

”Not Bad for the 7th Best Player in the league.”  - Kobe after dropping 48 on the Suns tonight. Kobe says he doesn’t know how to tweet, but he sure knows how to read blogs.

It’s not a rivalry. We beat them every year. Oh my God. I don’t care if they beat us tonight.

Kobe Bryant (on Lakers’ loss to Sacramento Kings)

Kobe seems to be that dude who will remind you that he beat you in Connect 4 when you were both 6 years old.

Between Kobe living in the past and Matt Barnes talking about some rings he never won, one has to wonder if the Lakers are planning for the future or stuck trying to re-live the past.

Vanessa Bryant, Kobe Bryant’s wife, files for divorce according to TMZ.
Vanessa, the ultimate Kobe-stopper, is sick of his cheating, or so says the story. I’m guessing this is going to get really ugly, really fast.
