An edited version of Kevin Durant’s emotional MVP speech. KD gets choked up, he thanks his mom, and he doesn’t forget Russ, even though he wants to tackle him sometimes.

Here’s Russell Westbrook stealing the ball from Mike Conley, down two, and dunking with four seconds left to send the game into overtime. This series has been full of heroic OKC efforts - Durant’s four-point play, Westbrook’s four-point play - to force an OT in which the Thunder would ultimately lose. There are years when the “One Shining Moment” montage contains fewer memorable plays than the Thunder have made in their five playoff games - and yet they face elimination, on the road, two days from now. If only there was a way to hit on a five-point play! It may not be theoretically possible, but if anyone can bend time and space through pure force of will in order to win a game, it’s Russell Westbrook.

Russell Westbrook is back to scream at your futility

Way ahead of schedule, Russell Westbrook is expected to make his return tonight against the Phoenix Suns. Which means more screams than if he got to preview Anna Wintour’s spring collection.

NBA Playoffs throwback: Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Memphis Grizzlies, 2011, Western Conference semifinals.

In a must-win game 4 with the Thunder down 2-1 in the series, Russell Westbrook goes for 40 in Memphis in a triple overtime victory. The Thunder go on to win the series before losing to Dallas in the WC Finals.

The rematch, sans Russ, begins Sunday at 1pm ET on ABC.

The NBA Playoffs are a Game of Thrones

…And Russell Westbrook is Bran Stark

"In my dream we’re trying to win the championship when the opposing team goes on a run and Coach Brooks says call a timeout. So I do. But the ref is not looking at me. He won’t call it.

What does he look at child?

"He’s looking at a… a three-eyed raven. It’s up their in the rafters. I climb up to it. But when I get there, it’s not a raven at all. IT’S… it’s

Yeah? Go on then. It’s what?

It’s Patrick Beverley.

From The Daily Thunder:

"Really, you could look at this Westbrook tantrum two ways: You could see it as a classic fit, a sign of his frustrating immaturity and overly emotional play, OR, you could see it as big time growth by the hot-headed 24-year-old. Because really, Brooks didn’t bench Westbrook at all. Immediately after the blowup with Thabo, Westbrook actually tugged on his jersey and said “get me” at Brooks. He wanted out. He knew he needed a little breather. And when he couldn’t settle himself, he decided to take a timeout in the hall.

And evidently, it worked. He checked back in and was terrific in slamming the door on Memphis. “

Russell Westbrook — and the intrigue behind what makes him tick? — makes him one of the most compelling players in basketball. Yes he plays angry, but the anger is mostly righteous: a notorious shoot-first point guard who yells at teammates when they pass up a shot. A turnover prone ball-handler who yells at himself when he commits one (or others)This is the enigma that is Russ Wess.
