Ricky Rubio & Ta-ku.

Song: "SJP"

Ricky Rubio goes twice behind-the-back for a left-handed layup. Also, big ups to the Wolves music guy for playing “You’re The Best" from the KARATE KID soundtrack after it because I mean, Ricky is basically the Daniel LaRusso of the NBA.

Happy Friday! If your day isn’t going as good as everyone else’s remember that you can always take Ricky’s advice to Alexey Shved and just “change your face”.

Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love pay homage to the Timberwolves of yore on the latest cover of SLAM magazine

Someone needs to tell Ricky you just brush your shoulders off and not do a full TSA pat down or whatever it is he’s doing.

An Alternate Opinion on the MVP Race.

Yes, LeBron James is in the midst of a great season and the Heat are doing incredibly well. This shouldn’t shock any one since LeBron James is one of the greatest players in the history of the Association and he plays along with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in a weak conference (If the playoffs were to start today in the Eastern Conference, two teams with below 500 records would make the cut). All of this is expected of LeBron James. There are two things you should always be able to count on: water being wet and LeBron James having a great night. Perhaps, I have a narrow, an extremely narrow perspective on James’ game, but it just felt like what he did with the Cavaliers was more impressive than the Heat. I can’t explain it, but James seems more impressive when he has to lean on the likes of Anderson Varejao and Boobie Gibson in the clutch than Dwyane Wayne and Shane Battier.

When I think of an MVP, I think of a player that not only contributes in terms of stats but also affects the culture of the team. Look at what Tony Parker is doing with the Spurs this season. There’s Chris Paul and his complete overhaul of the Clippers. There’s Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose and Dirk Nowitzk and Lou Williams. If you want to drink the kool aid, you could even throw Jeremy Lin and Ricky Rubio’s names into the MVP race as well.

Look, it’s entirely too early to declare who’s the MVP of this truncated season, but it’s not a one player competition. There’s still a lot of games left.
