Last night, Kevin Love gave us the first overtime game of the new season after hitting a game-tieing three-pointer in the final 12 seconds of regulation. Unfortunately even with the aid of his Google Glass, Jason Maxiell and the Orlando Magic could not stop Minnesota’s run as they win at home, 120-115.

Paul Pierce has gone from Old Man Game to just Old Man.
It’s hard, especially being a Celtics fan, to see Cap age like this. Someone take him around back and let KG put him out of his misery.

The Orlando Magic have announced today that Stan Van Gundy has been relieved of his coaching duties (their words) and Otis Smith has left as the team’s general manager.
The news isn’t necessarily that surprising since Van Gundy said that Dwight Howard wanted him fired in an early April media session. It’s safe to assume that Magic ownership are trying to keep Howard happy.
It’ll be interesting to see if Van Gundy jumps back into coaching or if he’ll join his brother Jeff in the broadcast booth.

It’s bad enough that David West destroyed Orlando’s frontline today, but he compounded the insult by wearing Rashard Lewis’s extended goatee while he did it.

NBA Playoffs Throwback: Indiana Pacers vs. Orlando Magic, 1994 Eastern Conference quarterfinals Game 1.

Veteran guard Byron Scott nails the game winning 3-pointer with 2 seconds left against a young Orlando Magic led by Shaquille O’Neal and "Penny" Hardaway. After the game Reggie Miller portents of things to come when he jokingly tells the broadcast team it should have been him. Indiana goes on to sweep the series 3-0 and advances to defeat the Atlanta Hawks before losing in the Eastern Conference finals to New York in 7 games.

The 2012 match-up begins Game 1, Saturday 7pm EST on ESPN!

WKMG, an Orlando television station is reporting that Dwight Howard called Magic owner Rich DeVos last Friday to say he won’t play for Stan Van Gundy. Apparently, Howard is still sore about Van Gundy’s decision to tell the media that the center wanted him fired.
Howard is currently out of the line up with a herniated disk in his lower back and is expected to miss the playoffs.
To make matters worse,  a recent Sports Illustrated poll shows that Van Gundy is the coach that players would least like to play for. The problem is that Van Gundy is a good coach and he gets results!
I mean if Dwight Howard has this gigantic fear of replicating Shaquille O’Neal’s career, then he shouldn’t clash with Van Gundy.

Orlando played its trump card. Sources for months maintained Howard wanted no part of the Lakers, that he did not want to follow the legacy of Shaquille O’Neal. Orlando leaders had one other reason for the threat: They favored the Lakers’ package of Andrew Bynum, Devin Ebanks and Steve Blake over the Nets’ offer.

Howard, of course, signed and everyone spoke of loyalty, which would have been better served had he signed long term. So the Magic have the game’s most dominant center locked up — until the nonsense starts again.

New Jersey Nets nearly pulled off trade for Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard - NYPOST.com

Very weird look inside the Dwight Howard trade drama from earlier this year. The Magic threatened to trade Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers if Howard didn’t waive opt-out.

Shaq really haunts and taunts Dwight Howard’s career. Doesn’t want to be a Laker, just wants to be buddies with Jay-Z.

One day, we’ll stop talking about Dwight Howard. One day.
