The NBA Store is selling Dwight Howard New Jersey Nets t-shirts. What do they know that we don’t?
So Deron Williams put up 57 points this evening, going 16-29 from the floor and a perfect 21-21 from the charity stripe.
That’s not only the NBA season high, but a franchise record for the Nets.
Yeah. “Brooklyn” will solve everything.
It’s going to be a short season after an even shorter off-season. We had limited time to track player movement, team development and bring you in depth team analysis, like we did last year. So the bros and bro-ettes at NBAO decided we’ll follow in the footsteps of the NBA and provide you with abbreviated team previews in the best way possible, haikus.
For our first installment of NBA Haikus, we dive into the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division. A division that seems to be heading towards mediocrity, given the aging Celtics, the lack of depth of the Knicks, uncertainty of the Nets and the permanent stench of the Raptors.
Eastern Conference - Atlantic Division:

Boston Celtics:
A bad trade gets worse
Clippers’ pick and Green, useless
Pull the plug, Danny
__________

New Jersey Nets:
Must trade for Dwight
So you can resign Deron
Brooklyn here they come
__________

New York Knicks:
Need a center, bad
Drop point guard for a center
Need a point guard, bad
__________

Philadelphia Sixers:
A calm Doug Collins
Mediocrity lives here
No sun for Philly
__________

Toronto Raptors:
If Dwane Casey can
Make Toronto play defense
Ed Davis will shine

More of a civics lesson than anything to do with basketball, but the value of the new Brooklyn arena get slightly more dim for its immediate neighbors.
It might be inevitable that Carmelo Anthony ends up in New Jersey. After all, he shares a name with BOTH Sopranos. But beware: Tony had a lot of trouble with mysterious Russians in the past.
SI’s Zach Lowe solidifies a growing sentiment: that both the Nuggets and Nets don’t have a clue.
The Nuggets are turning down a trade that “nets” them 2 or 3 1st round picks, plus last drafts 3rd overall big Derrick Favors, and for what? Because they don’t want to inherit $8 million on a contract THAT IS EXPIRING???
Meanwhile the Nets are selling the farm for the above mentioned lineup - a team if they’re lucky might get swept as a 7 or 8 seed the next 2 seasons - when they should be using these next 3 years to build through the draft before moving to Brooklyn.
Meanwhile, Carmelo to the Knicks is all that anybody really wants.
Whoa, whoa, WHOA! Keep that beard away from me, bro.
This has been a fascinating year thus far. It’s not just the off-season transactions, the Lakers going for another three-peat, or the hype in South Beach. From rookies to veterans, we are in the middle of one of the most exciting statistical seasons, ever. Most of that can be attributed to some of the all-time great players reaching the end of their careers or young guys trying to make a name for themselves. We are a quarter of the way through the year and here are the statistical standouts thus far:
Boston Celtics (1st, 17-4)

Jesus Walk, Jesus Shoots: Ray Allen has nailed 2487 career 3-pointers. 73 shy of Reggie Miller’s all time mark. Ray is hitting threes at a rate of about 2 per game and at that rate, the All-Time 3-Pointers Made record should be his by March. There is a chance he could break the record against the Pacers.
Pass-A-Holic: Rondo says that he wants to average 20 assists per game this year. I doubt he ever comes close to 20apg but his 14.06apg ain’t to shabby. It’s just shy of John Stockton’s single season record of 14.54. Rondo is definitely going to make a run at that record, but even if the season ended today, his 14.06 would be good for 3rd all-time.
New York Knicks (2nd, 14-9)

Resurrection: Amar’e has been on fire in the last month of play. Averaging 29 points and 9.7 rebounds a game. On the season he is averaging 25 points and 9.7 rebounds a game. If he can keep this up, it would be the first time a player averaged 25/9 since Dirk did it in 2004-05.
Toronto Raptors (3rd, 8-14)

The New Rodman: Okay, that’s more than a stretch but Reggie Evans body of work has been very Rodman-esque, averaging 4 points and 12.1 rebounds a game. His TRB% of 26.1 is the 4th best on record and would be the all-time mark if it weren’t for Dennis Rodman himself occupying spots 1,2 and 3.
Philadelphia 76ers (4th, 7-14)

Anybody Home?: The 76ers have an NBA low in attendance this year at about 13,000 fans per game. I understand that the 76ers are a terrible, terrible team but they can’t even give away tickets? At this rate, we should probably just start calling them the Seattle 89ers.
New Jersey Nets (5th, 6-16)

Doesn’t Do Windows: Brook Lopez isn’t taking care of the glass and that’s a problem. This year he is averaging 6.1 rebounds per game down from 8.6 last year. According to Basketball-Reference.com, Brook’s 10.2% Rebound Rate % ranks 3rd to last in the last 10 years on the list of centers at least 6’10” to play at least 25 minutes per game. Only two players have a worse rebounding rate; Eddy Curry (10.2%) and Mark Blount (9.8). That’s terrible company to keep.
Keep your pencils sharp and your calculators handy, NBA geeks! We’ll be back soon with the next installment of ‘NBA Stats To Watch For’.
An Arena Grows in Brooklyn
New Jersey Nets officials celebrated a big day Tuesday in the eight-year history of their effort to move to Brooklyn as the project began “going vertical,” with steel beams, girders and trusses being erected.

The Nets new Brooklyn arena broke ground 5 blocks from my house and 5 months behind schedule. Projecting out to a mid-2012-13 finish date. What does that mean? A half-season in Newark then over to Brooklyn? Not likely.
It means Carmelo would sign an extension to play for one of the league’s worst teams, in Newark, until maybe the 2013-14 season when he will be a 29 years old.
I’m not having it. Still say he goes to the Knicks.
Jordan Farmar had 15 points and a career-high 12 assists in his triumphant return to Los Angeles. The game was Farmar’s third-greatest LA moment, behind winning the 2010 title and the time he went on the Jurassic Park ride with Luke Walton.
