The Daily feat. Lin & The Kings

Song: The Alchemist “Pop Ya Collar”

Jeremy Lin Anthem: Linsane in the Brain

Lin’s presence in New York is being forged into a might marketing sword for both the Knicks and advertisers. So a Lin-anthem was just a matter of time. Personally, I’m holding out for the Jeremy Lin fathead.

This might become a bigger phenomenon than Tebow, mainly because Jeremy Lin is actually good at what he does.

Basketball’s Mecca, Madison Square Garden. A fitting home for the NBA’s new chosen one, a man named Lin.

20,000 believers will journey there tonight, all in hopes of witnessing another amazing feat vs. the Kings.

Tonight. 7:30. Lin-sanity marches on.

This morning, many are marveling at everything that is Jeremy Lin & “Lin-sanity”. Last night, many added “cold blooded assassin” to his resume, after he stepped up & nailed a game winning 3-pointer vs. Toronto.

It’s nothing new, folks. Nope, not at all. He’s been doing that since his high school days in Palo Alto, CA.

Let’s have his high school coach explain:

Palo Alto coach Peter Diepenbrock holds up two fingers when listing Lin’s priorities.

“Making plays and winning games,” he said.

Sounds familiar, no? Let’s continue with some details.

Palo Alto won 32 of them this season (losing only one), including a 51-47 upset of nationally ranked Mater Dei for the CIF State Division II title at Arco Arena two weeks ago. Most of the victories were lopsided.

But Diepenbrock swears, in every jaw-grinding, lip-biting, palm-sweating situation, Lin made the pivotal play to win.

“It was uncanny,” Diepenbrock said. “You could bank on him every time.”

You think Diepenbrock’s blowing smoke? He recalled every game-winner.

Oh no, Coach, I think we are all buying in. However, give us some proof domwhat you say:

— Dec. 9 in Santa Cruz Dad’s Tournament semifinals against St. Francis — “We’re down a bucket in the final minute of overtime. Jeremy hits a 25-footer. We win (57-55).”

— Dec. 21 in consolation title game of Mission Prep Classic against Bakersfield — “We’re down three with five seconds left. (Lin) catches in-bounds pass, penetrates, kicks and Steven Brown drills a 3-pointer at the buzzer. We win (80-74) in overtime and Jeremy has triple-double.”

— Dec. 29 in semifinals of St. Francis Tournament against San Ramon Valley “We’re up two, their stud (Brandon Adams) gets the ball underneath in final seconds. Jeremy rips the ball out of his hands, gets fouled, hits free throw. We win (54-51).”

— March 9, NorCal semifinals at home against Laguna Creek — “We’re tied with 50 seconds to go, (Lin) buries a 3-pointer from the wing. After a stop, he penetrates, feeds Brown who ices the win (52-46).”

— March 11, NorCal finals against Mitty at Arco Arena — down one with 24.1 seconds to play, Lin draws two defenders and finds Brad Lehman, who drills 3-pointer from the corner. Palo Alto 45, Mitty 43. “(Lin) makes it look easy.”

— March 17, State title game — “We’re up two in final 30 seconds. (Lin) decides to drive to the basket. He takes on their star (Taylor King), goes over him and makes a layup to ice it.”

So now you see, right? For years, Jeremy Lin has been doing what he did in Toronto last night.

He was building up his assassin’s resume & after last night he can scratch Toronto, plus many of the naysayers, off his list.

Question is…who’s next? Doubt him. He dares you.

You can not stop Jeremy Lin.
You can only hope to contain him.

The Daily feat. Ricky & Jeremy

Song: OGC “No Fear”

No Mas!

Sorry to rain on all the “Linning”, “Linsanity”, or whatever clever phrase you have for Jeremy Lin’s four game run, but Ricky Rubio is going to eat his lunch tomorrow night.

Count. On. It.

KNICKS VS SUNS BRAWL, 1993

THIS!!! THIS ENTIRE THING! Greg Anthony’s shirt!

Today is the 50th birthday of Jeff Van Gundy. The former Knicks and Rockets coach may be best remembered for his role in the famous Knicks-Heat brawl of May 1998. As Charles Oakley and Alonzo Mourning squared off, Van Gundy famously grabbed onto Mourning’s leg to prevent the fight. Van Gundy is now an analyst for ESPN’s coverage of the NBA. (Jeff Christensen/Reuters)
SI VAULT: Van Gundy is easy to mock, but he’s shrewd and fearless (10.30.00)

what a coach.
