SI VAULT: Cowens welcomes Dr. J as ABA merges with NBA (10.25.76)

The afro-tastic Wes Unseld grabs 30 boards in a game, which is cool in itself, but those 30 rebounds pushed him past Dave Cowens in the final game of the regular season to win the rebounding title. (April 6, 1975)
As a result of that game, he averaged 14.8 rebounds a game, to Cowens 14.7.
And extra points for the vintage basketball card featuring an extinct team, right?

18 days left until the 2010-11 NBA season tips off.
Brought to you by Dave Cowens, the original Boston redhead.
I almost went with Trey Kerby but I couldn’t resist picking a two time NBA Champion, MVP and Hall of Famer in Cowens.
