Los Angeles, y’all sure you aren’t mad?
There is no shortage of Lakers fans around the world. From Shanghai to Anchorage and even down in Boston; they rep the royal colors as if they bleed purple and gold themselves. Any devout Lakers fan can quote you any Lakers fact from memory as if they hold the title of ‘Lakers Historian’.
Most of these historians surface immediately after a Lakers loss. All of them serving quick reminder to their faithful to stay calm. They will quote history as if it were the gospel and Christ himself said, “We got this, LA”.
They will hang every one of their 3,048 NBA record wins in your face. They will brag about all 16 NBA titles. They constantly remind you of their back-2-back titles. They wear t-shirt to commemorate the 5 “cookies” in 10 years. And least you forget that for every title banner LA has lifted into its rafters, they have an equal number of Hall of Famers who have donned the Purple & Gold.
And who can blame these fans for being proud of their history? History so rich that most foam at the mouth just to claim to have been a part of it built on a fan base so large, it could over throw governments and build it’s own empire.
As much as their doubters cling to every regular season Lakers’ loss, Lakers fans will remind you that the only victories that matter are those in June. That the Lakers have far more important things to worry about than a game in December. While those statements are drenched in arrogance and served with a side of ego, they are the truth.
As the millions of Lakers haters relish in this loss to the Heat for the next day or so, the Los Angeles faithful don’t waiver. They know that by the end of the season chances are they will have the ultimate joy of reveling in a year long victory parade.
But still, you sure you all aren’t just a little mad?
