NBA Origin Story
The whole talcum powder before games ritual originally started as a private gag between Michael Jordan and Chicago Bulls announcer Johnny “Red” Kerr.
Before every game Jordan playfully clapped a little cloud of talcum powder in the face of the late great Kerr, and then on cue he would feign coughing. It got so familiar to Bulls fans they even mention it in this ‘93 Bulls home opener promo the year after M.J. retired. Here they are reliving the moment one last time at a tribute night for Kerr in 2009.
Later on that turned into Kevin Garnett doing the same thing in Minnesota, and now we have LeBron’s super sized, Christ-like version that he does at no one in particular.
