Nike x LeBron 9: The Big Bang ad spot
It’s an interesting deviation from Nike’s typical advertising style. There’s no athletes in this ad, no sport being played and most certainly no LeBron. The location isn’t Earth and it most certainly doesn’t look like any galaxy I’m familiar with. Yup, I backpacked through a few galaxies when I was in college.
Nike’s main approach for this ad was to advertise the technology of the shoe instead of the athlete who wears the shoe. Except they don’t really talk about the technology of the shoe, unless you really believe this shoe is constructed of some kind of cosmic dark matter.
One reoccurring theme I have noticed in LeBron’s Nike commercials is that Nike loves to use a slower tempo with softer music all while showing us graphic images of ultra-powerful beings. In the ‘LeBron Rise’ ad, they finish off the commercial with LeBron powerfully driving to the rim in slow motion with in near silence. Is Nike trying to tell us that LeBron has the power to cause celestial movements yet the ability to control their very movements that he caused? I don’t really know, I’m just a blogger.
Either way, here’s to science!
