There’s only two players who have scored eight points in 11 seconds in a pivotal playoff game. One is Reggie Miller, who broke the Knicks’ hearts back in 1995. Now James Jones joins him in the Eight/Eleven Club, by connecting on two four-point-plays within eleven seconds:
The Heat sharpshooter made a 3-pointer with 2:26 remaining, got fouled by Solomon Jones and swished the free throw. Miami immediately got the ball back when Bibby ran over Mario Chalmers, and with 2:15 left, James Jones struck again.
He connected from the left side, got fouled by Bibby, made that free throw as well and Miami clawed within 46-42 at halftime.
This raises some questions:
- How do you foul James Jones twice in eleven seconds, especially when those eight points represent a doubling of his regular-season scoring average?
- Did Jones call up Spike Lee at halftime to talk trash, just for the hell of it?
- When James Jones explodes like this, and the Heat still lose by ten at home, don’t you have to like the Hawks to win the series?
- Will anyone remember this feat past tomorrow, and for the few that do, will they mistakenly think it was Jumaine Jones instead?
